Adele’s man takes a pop at Pepsi: Taking legal action to stop drinks giant 'hijacking' ethical water business
- Simon Konecki, a former City trader, is battling drinks giant Pepsi
- New product SoBe Lifewater's name is 'too similar' to his own Life Water
- Life’s profits are donated to his charity Drop4Drop, which funds clean drinking water in developing countries
Singer Adele’s boyfriend is battling Pepsi in a bid to stop the drinks giant ‘hijacking’ his ethical water business.
Simon Konecki, a former City trader, and Adele have a ten-month-old son Angelo.
Mr Konecki is taking legal action to stop the US firm trademarking its drink, SoBe Lifewater, in Britain, because he claims it sounds too similar to his bottled water, Life.
Life’s profits are donated to his charity Drop4Drop, which funds clean drinking water in developing countries.
Mr Konecki, 38, said he is ‘frustrated’ and is preparing to fight the case in court tomorrow.
‘The name Lifewater is almost identical to Life water, and we’d be incredibly disappointed for anyone to confuse our ethical, charitable and carbon neutral water with one that doesn’t share those values,’ he said.
PepsiCo confirmed it is seeking to register Lifewater as a global trademark, but said Pepsi has ‘no current plans’ to use Lifewater as a trademark in Britain.
‘We are aware of the ‘Life’ trademark in the UK and believe confusion in the market is unlikely given the different nature of the products.’

Adele heads for home after watching Lady Gaga at the iTunes Festival
Not keen to be seen: Make-up free Adele heads for home after watching Lady Gaga at the iTunes Festival
Adele made a discreet exit from the Camden Roundhouse, where she joined an array of celebs to watch Lady Gaga perform her much vaunted opening show at this year’s iTunes Festival.
Dressed in a distinctive patterned outfit, but without her trademark Fifties style make-up Adele kept a very low profile at the event before she was driven back to her Brighton home.
The Rolling in the Deep singer was joined at the event - during which Gaga performed new tracks from forthcoming album ARTPOP - by One Direction star Niall Horan, Sherlock actor Benedict Cumberbatch and Downton Abbey’s Laura Carmichael.
Adele has enjoyed a hugely successful year despite her lack of musical output.
8/30 Adele at Battersea Park, South London .
Adele yesterday at Battersea Park, South London it was taken by Ken Russell as he came upon her while shooting footage of trees .
Ken Russell said ,
I
was photographing some trees in Battersea Park when who should step
into the frame, but the fabulous Adele. Accompanied by their minder, she
was out walking with her handsome partner Simon Konecki, who was
pushing their baby in a pram.
Now, I love Adele, and a few
moments after I snapped the photo I cycled past her, turned and to my
enormous embarrassment found myself gushing, “Adele, I just want to wish
you every happiness. I think you are a wonderful singer and have a
truly beautiful voice.”
At first she seemed slightly cross,
but then she smiled and said thank you. Adele looked very beautiful,
healthy and seemed very content, but I sensed I was really intruding on
their privacy, so I immediately cycled on.

Adele's stunning wax figure launched in London!
After winning an Oscar and being awarded an MBE in the
Queen's Birthday Honours list, internationally acclaimed singer and
songwriter, Adele, was today honoured with a Madame Tussauds wax figure
in London.
Famous for her powerful and emotional stage presence, the unveiling of her likeness in Madame Tussauds London paid tribute to her show-stopping live performances with suitably dramatic and theatrical staging. Media arrived to see the figure back lit in perfect silhouette before the singer’s likeness was slowly revealed as her anthem Someone Like You was performed live on a piano, before being showered in silver and gold glitter. Dressed in a glamorous black dress, mirroring her 2012 Grammys performance look, the figure is styled to perfection with Adele's trademark black eyeliner and flowing locks carefully coiffured.

"It's amazing – I feel a bit emotional. They've even got my chin right."
Adele
The singer herself had a sneak peak of her figure at the Madame Tussauds
studios recently and was delighted with the result. On meeting her
double she said, "That's scary! It's amazing – I feel a bit emotional.
They've even got my chin right."
“Adele is quite simply one of
the world's most successful, celebrated and popular performers and
rightly deserves a place here at Madame Tussauds London," commented PR
Manager, Nicole Fenner. “We are delighted to honour her here today, and
we know guests will flock to stand on stage next to her. We wanted to
replicate her as a dynamic performer and hopefully we've achieved that.
Certainly the response this morning has been extremely positive. She
is one of the most influential and acclaimed British female artists ever
and looks right at home alongside our other pop greats," Nicole added.
Adele
joins a dream line up of A-list female artists in the world famous
attraction, including Beyonce, Rihanna, Amy Winehouse and Britney Spears
- guests will be able to step on stage right next to their heroine.
